Fanwort Find

Fanwort Find is a volunteer monitoring protocol to help us find and track the spread of the invasive aquatic plant fanwort (cabomba caroliniana). Fanwort Find is an initiative of the Invading Species Awareness Program, which is a partnership between the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (O.M.N.R.). In 2004, with the help of our intrepid volunteers, fanwort was found in many new areas in Kasshabog Lake and was positively identified for the first time in South Lake. It is believed that fanwort traveled from Kasshabog Lake down the North River and into South Lake. The North River then flows out of South Lake with the next stop being Round Lake which is part of the Crowe watershed and eventually goes into the Trent-Severn waterway.

We need your help to let us know if fanwort is spreading to new locations. Finding fanwort in new locations can potentially give an idea of where and how it is spreading to help us determine a management plan. We're asking for volunteers in Kasshabog, Round, Belmont, Oak, Cordova and Crowe Lakes as well as Stoney Lake to help us by coming out and search their lake for fanwort.
